Parabens are used as preservatives in cosmetics, foods, and drugs. And although they are a common and allowed ingredient, it is still believed that they could be bad for long-term health.
Also called parabens are chemical substances that are used as preservatives in all kinds of everyday products, from toothpaste, deodorant or shower gel, to cosmetics such as makeup, nail polish, or moisturizing face creams and body. They are also used in the food industry because they prevent the development of fungi and yeasts, and can be found in the composition of some drugs (syrups, antacids, antibiotics, vaginal fungicides ...).
They are used because they are an inexpensive way to protect your products against microorganism infections, and it is estimated that between 70 and 90% of cosmetics include parabens in their composition.
In 2004, researchers at the University of Reading in Edinburgh, identified certain symptoms such as contact dermatitis, itching, inflammation or redness of the skin, or a feeling of dryness after showering, could be a reaction to parabens.
